With so much at stake for working families in the 2020 election, AFSCME members across the country stood up to the challenge once again. Although the pandemic prevented us from putting thousands of boots on the ground as we normally do, AFSCME members still made a huge difference in key races across the country.

This past Saturday, you might have been cooking a late breakfast, planning a fun weekend activity or taking some quiet time with your family. But with 10 days to go until the most important election of our lifetimes, more than 200 AFSCME members were fired up and raring to go during a Pennsylvania volunteer kickoff Zoom call, one of many being held around the country as the Big Green Machine kicks into high gear.

The Freedom Foundation / Opt-Out Today

AFSCME Members from all across Oregon have been contacted by a group called the Freedom Foundation / Opt-Out Today. They’re telling us to drop our union membership and “give yourself a raise.” AFSCME members have widely seen through this smokescreen and we are choosing to stick with our union.

Oregon AFSCME Strategic Plan

This last year we went through a comprehensive planning process with members and staff to develop our 3-year strategic plan. We started off with a survey of all Council members and from there the committee worked to draft the plan that was just adopted by the board last month. This plan lays out our direction and goals for the next 3 years to build an even more powerful and inclusive union. 

NW Labor Press

The Northwest Labor Press is an independent, union-supported newspaper. The print edition is mailed out twice a month to over 50,000 members of more than 80 unions in Oregon and Southwest Washington. The online edition has been maintained here at nwlaborpress.org since 1997.

There are few other publications like it. Founded in 1900 by a consortium of trade unions, it’s one of America’s oldest labor movement newspapers.

Our focus is on the Portland metro area, Oregon, and the Pacific Northwest, but we also report on national and global issues.
